About Ley Maps and your data
Ley Maps is a community record of World of Warcraft: Forever. Players run a small addon that notes what the game shows them; together those notes become drop rates, quest XP, clear times and leveling routes for everyone. This page says exactly what is recorded, why, who sees it, how long it's kept and how to delete it.
Why it exists
Forever is new, and much of what the wikis say is copied from Classic. Ley Maps answers from what real players actually saw on Forever: how often an item really drops, what a quest really pays at your level, how long a dungeon really takes. Every answer is labeled with its source, our own players' observations first.
What the addon records
The Ley Maps addon notes what the game's own interface reports while you play. Each note carries the game build it came from.
| About | What's noted |
|---|---|
| Your characters | Name and surname, realm, class, race, faction, level, the game's character id, gear worn |
| Quests | Quests seen, accepted and turned in; XP and money offered and paid; rewards and the one you picked; who gave it and where |
| Loot and items | Which creatures dropped what, how many corpses were looted, item stats per build, what containers held |
| Professions and fishing | Skill levels and skill-ups, recipes learned, crafts, gathering nodes and spots, every fishing cast and its catch |
| Dungeons | Runs, times, bosses, deaths, loot, and party members by class and level only, never by name |
| Vendors, trainers, travel | Prices and stock, trainer services, flight and boat times, hearthstone use |
| Planning a route | Your level, quests completed and in your log, where you last logged out, your hearth, flight paths and mounts |
Many notes include map positions (where a quest was given, where a fish was caught) and times.
What it never does
- It never reads chat or whispers. The only chat it looks at is the game's own loot lines in a dungeon group ("X receives loot"), to tell which class won an item. The name in that line is not kept.
- It never automates play. No memory reading, no movement, combat, targeting or clicking for you. The only convenience: the in-game guide may accept and turn in the current step's quests when you open a quest window, and you can turn that off. Reward choices are always yours.
-
The tray never runs the addon's file as code. It reads
LeyMaps.luaas plain data. - No ads, no analytics, no tracking cookies, on this site or in the app.
What else is sent
-
With each upload: the name of your WoW account folder (from
WTF\Account), a random id the tray made for this PC, the addon and game version, and which of your devices sent it. - Error reports (Settings can turn them off): warnings and errors from the tray with the app and Windows version. Tokens and your Windows user folder are stripped out, and no game data or file contents are included.
- Signing in a PC: its Windows computer name, so you can tell your devices apart.
Your account
- Battle.net login gives us only your account id and your BattleTag. No email, no password, no game data from Blizzard.
- One login cookie (and a short-lived one during login). The server keeps the IP address and browser of each login session; sessions end after 7 days unused and 30 days at most.
- Characters belong to whoever uploaded them first. If someone else's upload claims the same character, it's marked contested and an admin settles it.
- A log of account changes (devices connected or removed, deletions) is kept for security.
Who sees what
| Who | Sees |
|---|---|
| Anyone | Nothing of yours. The public pages are just this site. |
| Logged-in players | Their own characters, uploads and devices, plus community totals (drop rates, quest XP, fishing) with no one's name on them |
| Discord bot users | Answers built from Ley Maps. These can name a character: the bot can look up a character's level, class and gear by name, and answers can mention whose run a route follows. |
| Admins (the people running Ley Maps) | Everything, to run and fix the service |
Other services involved
- Battle.net, for logging in.
- Anthropic (Claude), for the Discord bot: the question you ask and Ley Maps' answer data are sent to Anthropic's API to write the reply.
- Discord, if you use the bot there.
- Wowhead, only if you turn on the tray's optional page helper: your PC then loads public wowhead.com pages for Ley Maps.
- The site, the database and the app downloads run on a rented server.
How long it's kept
- Game observations (the shared data itself) are kept for as long as the service runs.
- Your raw upload files are kept until you delete your account.
- Login sessions end after 7 days unused or 30 days at most.
- Web server logs (IP addresses, pages requested) are rotated daily and kept 14 days.
Disconnecting and deleting
- Disconnect a PC: on your account page, under devices. That PC stops uploading until it signs in again.
- Delete your account: on your account page. This signs out every device, deletes your account, your login sessions and your raw upload files, and releases your characters.
- What stays: what your uploads taught Ley Maps (the counts behind drop rates, quest XP and routes). Those observations are filed by character name. To have a character's observations removed too, ask us (below).
-
On your PC: uninstall Ley Maps from Windows Settings → Apps, and delete the
LeyMapsfolder fromInterface\AddOnsif you like./ley reset confirmwipes what the addon has recorded so far.
